Our Story
The Yuet Wan Cultural Association, formed in 2024, was named in memory after Master Chun Lee's late wife. Led by Master Lee and a passionate team, Yuet Wan provides a safe, inclusive space for young people to learn discipline, teamwork, and confidence through cultural expression.
The group focuses on youth-driven movement dedicated to preserving and sharing the richness of Chinese heritage through martial arts, lion dancing, drumming, and community engagement.
2nd Place — Canada National Lion Dance Championship
Our Junior Team earned 2nd place at the 4th Canada National Lion Dance Championship 2026 — a proud moment for our students and instructors.
ConfidenceNatureBeautyStrengthHigh tradition
Lion Dance forges explosive power, precise balance, and relentless endurance. Hormones rise. Posture straightens. Eyes clear. Two bodies move as one under the beat of the drum, gong, and cymbals — tradition and beauty passed from one set of hands to another.
This is not just a performance — this is the old fire still burning from Ancient Asia.
What it builds
Martial skill.
Absolute trust.
Real human connection.
The few who keep training carry confidence.
Train your body. Strike the drum. Leap high.
Leave the fluorescent prison & seek fresh air
Preserve the high tradition with your own hands.
Become the lion.
What Is Lion Dance?
Lion Dance is a traditional performance where two dancers move as one lion, powered by drum, cymbals, and gong. It's performed at Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, grand openings, weddings, and community events to bring good luck and chase away bad energy.
The lion "eats" a symbolic green — like lettuce or red scrolls — and shares the blessings with everyone. Audience members are welcome to touch the lion and offer a red envelope as a sign of good fortune and thanks.
What the lion still delivers
Skills
Sharpened under the cloth: deep martial stances, explosive leaps, timing shared so perfectly two become one.
Camaraderie
Forged in motion: the instruments pull the whole crew into a single unit stronger than any individual.
Connection
That cannot be faked: faces, sweat, tears, and laughter after every practice and performance.
What Our Members Say
I joined YWCA around March 2026. Since joining, I definitely felt more confident in myself and learned tons of new skills. I couldn't have achieved all of those skills without the help of my new AMAZING friends from YWCA!
I'm homeschooled, and I joined YWCA in April 2025 with no experience. Since then, I've competed at two Canadian Lion Dance National Championships, built real confidence and leadership skills, and made friends I wouldn't have met otherwise. I went from not talking to people to performing in front of hundreds of people and helping lead our team to 2nd place at Nationals! YWCA didn't just teach me how to lion dance; it gave me a community that I love.
YWCA is a nice, kind, & thoughtful group that doesn't make anyone feel left out. Our team members worked hard and won 2nd place at Nationals. YWCA also has fun group drumming.
I've been lion dancing and drumming with YWCA since April 2025. In 2026, our team competed at the Canada National Lion Dance Championship and earned second place. I especially enjoyed helping plan and shape our competition routine.
YWCA is one of the few lion dance groups that emphasizes true happiness and harmony among the team. Preparing for nationals was more fun than stressful!
I joined the group around September 2024. I like lion dancing, making new friends, and performing.
I joined the YWCA in late March 2025, and I have had many new experiences since then.

What Parents Say
我的孩子喜欢这个活动,所以参加,自 从他们参加后,我觉得他们变得很活 跃,很积极,而且大胆表现自己,也很 有信心 (My children enjoy this activity, so they participate in it. Since joining, I feel they have become more energetic, proactive, and confident, and are bolder in expressing themselves.)
(Before joining this lion dance troupe, my homeschooled kids were quiet and unsure of themselves. Now, they are confident, full of life, & excited for every Sunday practice & each performance. This group has given them belonging, purpose, pride, and has totally transformed them! Thank you so much YWCA!)
